A Man Who Made 30 Crore From Nothing

2222

When he was 17, he turned to Mumbai for a job. His bad luck, he was robbed as soon as he reached Mumbai, right outside the station, loosing the only rupees 200 he had. As a 17 year old boy outside the Bandra station he had nothing, except determination.
As he did not understand Hindi, a Tamilian passing by, took him to a temple and appealed visitors to contribute money and arrange a ticket for him to Chennai. But the 17 year old boy, Prem Ganapathy, was determined that Mumbai was going to change his life.
After a bit of effort, he got a job to wash utensils at Mahim Bakery. He earned about 150 rupees a month. He continued to work rigorously at several restaurants to earn and save.
In about two years, he saved enough money to start his own business (selling Idlis). He hired a handcart for rupees 150 per month and bought some utensils along with a stove for rupees 1000. It was year 1992, when he started operating his business outside Vashi railway station.
After doing it all alone for a while. He felt that he needed some help as his business grew. He invited two of his younger brothers to Mumbai. He ensured hygiene at the eatery and they all wore a cap. This was a surprise for his customers as roadside eateries never cared about this.
Local authorities seized his cart on many occasions and he had to pay penalty to get it back as such carts did not get a license. In a few years, he saved enough money and leased a shop for  Rs 5000 per month and also hired two additional employees. His street side cart was now a small restaurant.
Many of his frequent visitors were college students and so he established good connections with them. He learned to use internet from them and started looking for recipes on the internet. He started experimenting with dosas and in a year, he introduced 26 new dosas like Schezwan Dosa, Paneer Chilli Dosa and Spring Roll Dosa. By 2002, his restaurant had 105 varieties of dosa and earned a lot of fame.
However, he always dreamt of having an outlet in a mall. He approached many malls but his offer was turned down as they were reserved for big brand like McDonald’s etc. Finally he got an opportunity to open his outlet in the Center One Mall at Vashi. He got the opportunity because the managerial staff at the mall was a frequent visitor to his restaurant. His outlet in the mall became a big success
In the year 2012, he had 45 restaurant across 11 Indians states and 7 restaurants at foreign nations like New Zealand, Dubai (U.A.E), Muscat (Oman) – everything under the name of The Dosa Plaza.
The man who was standing outside the Bandra station without a single penny on him in 1990, had set up a brand and empire of 30 crores in 2012.

6 Things You Absolutely Shouldn’t Do In Your 20’s

The wonderful days you spent as a student are now over and sadly you have no option but to grow up. People begin to see you in a different light and all the amusing things you did in college will now cease to be socially acceptable. You’ll be independent in the truest sense, and your parents will be proud of you nonetheless.  And since with age comes maturity and wisdom, we thought to share a few lessons about adulthood that will come in handy in your life henceforth. Here then are six things no man should do in his 20s.

1) Don’t rely on readymade meals

Yes, we know it was much easier to live off a diet of takeaways or better still- mum’s cooking. But times have changed, you’ve grown up and your metabolism seems to be ageing with you. And though it’s a tiresome task, you must cook a proper nutritious meal for yourself. Because let’s face it - pizzas or ready-made meals can limit your nutrition level, and in order to function every day, you need REAL food.

2) Don’t go to every party

Just because you’re invited, or because you best buddy expects you to be there, doesn’t mean you have to. In fact it’s all right to stay back with a good book or a good movie all by yourself. You don’t even have to be out there club hopping on weekends. Sit back, relax and catch up with yourself. Everyone needs an uneventful weekend once in a while.

3) Don’t leave your work until the last moment

We have all been there, stayed awake till 4 AM, drank pots of coffee, struggling to finish the college assignment. From now on, however, life will be hard. You’re up against the ruthless co-workers who won’t go down without a war. You’ll have to maintain your career as giving your second-best results won’t cut in anymore. It’s time you become proactive in your career.

4) Don’t sleep till 1 pm on a Saturday

As you approach 20s, people expect you to make the most of the day, and rightly so. Lying-in won’t make your day productive. You’ll have places to be, errands to run, friends to meet and things to sort. You are very busy during the weekday, so weekend is precious. Don’t waste it by sleeping till 1 or 2 PM in the afternoon. Seriously, those days are long gone.

5) Don’t just rely on WhatsApp

Take that expensive phone of yours and actually dial someone’s number, and no, calling to order food doesn’t count. Whatsapp is a great way of communication, no denying, but hearing another human’s voice on the other side makes for a nice change. So, pick up the phone and call your friends, you’ll be surprised to see how much everyone appreciates the gesture.

6) Don’t be afraid to be single

Staying single is not the end of the world, it can be rather awesome. All depends on how you embrace your singlehood. Enjoy your status to the best possible extent. Pick up a new hobby, learn to play a new sport and go meet new people every day. When you’re single you have all the time for yourself. So, do what you had always wanted. Cherish your singleness!

12 Thoughts You Have When You’re About To Go And Study Abroad

Studying abroad. This would have been next to impossible just a decade back. Maybe you heard about your neighbouring aunty’s second daughter’s son who went to study “abroad”. Nowadays, going to study abroad is quite a trend. More and more people want to take a shot at exploring the opportunities available and take in a new experience.
So if you are one of those lucky souls who is getting the opportunity to dip your feet into an ocean thousands of miles away from your house, going to a school where the system of education is totally different from what you are used to, and basically getting to explore another part of the world far, far away from where you grew up…this article’s for you!

 1. There is no other happiness like the one you feel after you have cracked your GRE/ TOEFL/ IELTS exam

StudyAbroad4

You are FINALLY done with your exam. So it seems like your dream of going abroad to study *might* actually come true. And more than that, once you are done with the damn exam, you don’t have to study the same stuff again and again, which had driven you crazy for months.

2. The wait for an admit

StudyAbroad18

You never thought checking your emails so many times a day was possible. Oh, how one email can make your day! -_-
Seriously, it’s just an email. It’s either a yes or a no. How long does it take for a university to tell you that?!
COME ON, ALREADY!!!!!!

3. When a university sends you an admit and the I20

StudyAbroad5

“Okay, so it seems like I might actually get to go.”
Up until then, it was a cross between offering up your soul to the devil in exchange for an admit from the university you wanted to get into, and dancing around a sacred fire while pulling out clumps of your hair.

… And your visa is approved

StudyAbroad20

And even though you know it’s not an exam with a syllabus, you are scared of what the Visa Officer might ask you… but you come out with a smile and a spring in your step because your VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED!!

3. When you book your plane ticket

StudyAbroad9

“Well. This seems kind of final.”

4. You start dreaming about your new life

StudyAbroad7

Well, let’s not get too graphic, shall we?

5. Overwhelming enthusiasm

StudyAbroad6

Woohoooo!!! So you are going out of your country, meeting new people, exploring new places, living a different lifestyle. Life doesn’t get any better than this!

5. You excitedly go shopping… but end up with bags, cookers, and utensils

StudyAbroad10

Who knew bags and cookers could cost so much?! It’s as if you are buying a body part!

6. The Countdown begins…

StudyAbroad11

One month to go…

7. The “going to visit my favourite places” one last time

StudyAbroad19

Once you go out of your country, you have no idea when you will come back. Maybe after a year? Maybe 2 years? It’s time to visit your favourite hangouts one last time. That place you always go meet your friends. Or the one where they serve the best tea in the world. Or the one where the hotel owner knows you enough when you say “the usual.”
And you start wondering when you will get to eat all this again.

Two weeks to go…

8. Meeting your friends as often as you can because… *sigh*

StudyAbroad2

One week to go…

9. Panic

StudyAbroad13

“I am leaving in a week. I am leaving the country in a week. Shit. I am leaving theCOUNTRY(!!!!) in a WEEK(!!!!).”
Even though you shall be independent and you’ll get to do whatever you want…
…you shall be away from the warmth and safety of your home, where you could lie around lazily and still get fed every day.

You can count the number of days remaining, on one hand now…

10. And the nostalgia hits.

StudyAbroad12

You have so many memories in your hometown. Calling up friends and making impromptu plans. Having a hangout spot which is practically a home outside your home. Just taking out your bike or car and going for a drive. Eating maa ke haath ka khaana when you get home, tired. Fighting with your sibling over petty stuff. Getting pampered by your grandparents.
When you go abroad, it won’t be the same. You will have to cook your own food and manage your classes. You will have to share your room with strangers whose likes and dislikes will be different from yours. You won’t have a hot and delicious meal made for you when you are tired after a long day of work. Your friends will not just be on the other side of the world, but on another time zone. You start wondering whether you really want to go. Even though there’s an exciting adventure lying ahead, there’s so much more that you are leaving behind.
Oh, if only you could make your brain stop thinking!

11. “Crap. I am leaving the COUNTRY tomorrow!”

StudyAbroad14

You want to go. But you don’t want to go. But you also want to go. Get what I am saying? Or you want to cut out the entire section of land where you and your loved ones live, and take it all with you.

12. And when the moment comes for you to leave…

You know that no matter what, no matter how many time zones, kilometers and oceans lie between your friends/family and you, some things will never change. You are going to be okay. And a new adventure awaits.
StudyAbroad17

“Adventure is out there!” :)
