12 Times Facebook & Twitter Actually Helped Save People’s Lives

You don't really need to read about how all pervasive Twitter, Facebook and all the rest of these sites has become. We experience it on a daily basis. From updates about new born babies, weddings, and jobs, to just dumb revelations and explanations, the things we see range from the brilliant to the bizarre, but mostly trivial. But at times these social networks have been the difference between life and death, and no I'm not talking in metaphors here.
Here are a few tales of how the Internet came to the rescue of these people.

1. Twitter helped rescue a missing snowboarder from the Swiss Alps.

4. Facebook friends of a mother helped her understand her daughter's disease after she uploaded her picture on the Internet.

In March 2014, Tara Taylor posted her daughter Rylee's picture on Facebook, where her left eye was glowing. Most of Tara's friends assumed that the glow in Rylee's left eye was because of the camera's flash light and ignored it. However, two of her friends recognized the symptoms and recommended an immediate consultation with a doctor. She was later diagnosed with Coats disease.

Are You A Mobile Superhero?

The workplace is quickly being infiltrated by a new breed of mobile superhero — elite workers who rely on and use mobile apps to increase productivity. These men and women have superpowers that soar past anything the Justice League could drum up. This super-connected workforce has the ability to channel the data and apps that smartphones provide, and have made businesses stronger than ever.
Unisys did a research project with Forrester Consulting, conducting surveys with more than 590 businesses around the globe. The researchers found that mobile devices are making workers more productive, making them 35% more likely to collaborate with colleagues than those who are phone-less.
The mobile elite also drive innovation within their companies, compelling their co-workers to accept change through the power of tech.
But every superhero has his kryptonite, and for these smartphone-toting men and women it seems risk-taking is their hubris. They are two times more likely to download unauthorized apps to get work done, putting their companies and fellow workers at risk for a security breach.
